Focus

A social movie-trivia experience for people who already enjoy testing their film knowledge, but do it through scattered quizzes, conversations, and passive viewing habits.

Challenge

Film fans enjoy trivia, but there is not always a structured and social way to challenge friends around the movies they care about. I wanted to understand whether a dedicated movie-trivia app could turn that interest into a more active, repeatable game experience.

Contribution

  • Surveyed casual film watchers, avid movie fans, and trivia players to understand how they already engage with movie trivia.
  • Analysed the responses and used the findings to shape the first product concept around quizzes, challenge flows, and movie-specific play.
  • Created the UX/UI direction and tested the concept with users to find where the experience felt useful, confusing, or underdeveloped.
  • Refined the design after feedback, with users responding especially well to the quiz functionality and asking for stronger recommendations and social features.
  • Started building a React Native MVP to test the design decisions in a real mobile product rather than leaving the work as static screens.

Outcome

The research confirmed a clear opportunity for a gamified, social, movie-specific trivia product. The project now gives me a concrete way to discuss research, mobile UI decisions, product iteration, and hands-on React Native development.

Next

  • Keep refining the MVP so the main trivia loop feels fast, polished, and easy to repeat.
  • Explore friend challenges, score-based play, and recommendation features based on user feedback.
  • Use the working MVP to run another round of testing and turn the findings into a stronger product case study.
